Family Therapy

Family therapy can be helpful when family relationships and communication becomes stressed. There are many reasons why families become stressed, but the emotional motivations for family conflict often center on the need for closeness and/or the need for independence. Past childhood experiences can influence how we parent, how we experience being part of a family, and how we think about our kids. The goal of family therapy is to get family members talking to each other in a safe, contained environment.

Some of the family therapy issues I have worked with include:

  • Substance abuse

  • Physical and sexual abuse

  • Incarceration

  • Foster care

  • Adoption

  • Conflict

  • Acting out behavior

  • Blended families

  • Academic problems

  • Chronic illness and death
