“When my kids become wild and unruly, I use a nice, safe playpen.
When they’re finished, I climb out.”

Kid Therapy
Kids (3-17)
The language of kids is behavior. Rather than tell a caregiver how they feel, they act it out. Caregivers with kids that are acting out are not just managing difficult behavior, but their own reactions to that behavior, not to mention the work of running a family! Therapy with kids is different because kids may not know why they are mad or sad or scared, so understanding the root of a behavior is not always a verbal process. Through assessment, rapport building and play therapy, I work with parents and kids to understand the nature of a kid’s behavior and how to work toward resolution of the emotion and motivation behind it. I also use EMDR with kids when indicated to help alleviate anxiety or depression, and to increase self-esteem.
Some of the issues I have worked on with kids include:
Anxiety
Depression
Physical trauma
Physical and sexual abuse
ADHD
Tourette Syndrome (social/emotional impact)
Loss of a parent
Separation and Divorce
Blended families
Kids with sick parents
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth
